‘The idea was to make a formal garment feel fresh and new. He did the same kind of iterative experimentation with the boxy tweed jacket—a most classic French garment—by splicing in upcycled denim at the front placket, shoulder seams, hem, and cuffs. It’s a high-low mash-up and a guaranteed best-seller on his e-commerce site, not just in tweed, but also in black sequins or black duchesse.’ Nicole Phelps on Lutz Huelle S/S 2024, VOGUE RUNWAY

“…but smart and chic it was. Epitomizing that mix of refinement and ease were tuxedo-inspired shapes that included a jacket with arms shorn off to become a vest; a shirt in blown-up proportions that turned into a crisp poplin dress, and another with its shoulders sliced off and replaced with a handsome blowsy ruffle. New here was the knitwear that furthered Huelle’s idea of a balance between sophistication and ease, turning a body-con minidress or spaghetti-strap top into more comfortable options. Along with witty touches like a sprinkling of foil on smartly tailored shorts and slacks or hearts printed on frayed denim until they looked like leopard spots, they were proof of what a dab hand at delightful clothes Huelle is.” Lily Templeton on AZ FACTORY with LUTZ HUELLE Resort 2024 on WWD

I saw you .. walking in the Rain.. Fall/Winter 2012/13 Watching people covering themselves against the rain during a sudden downpour made me think of oversized hoods, crinkled coated cottons and other shiny surfaces. It was the first season of the coats with draped, generous front panels wrapping around the body, like pulling a coat closer in a sudden burst of rain .. there was also the draped, hooded Biker Jacket that became a staple in the collection for years afterwards. My favourite look was the shortsleeved biker jacket in wool worn over a superhighwaisted pant and caramel gloves ❤️🔥
I sometimes think about that day .. I’d met Karl before, as member of the jury at the Festival d’Hyeres.. we sat next to each other during the show, and chatted throughout. He was utterly charming and he made me laugh with his kinda dry sense of humour typical of people from Northern Germany.I was flattered when he invited me to the shoot organized by Nicole Picard for Madame Le Figaro- after all I was very much an independent and undergound-ish designer ( which is just a more romantic way of saying ‘under the radar’ ), but he told me he loved my work and that he wanted me to be part of this. He was slightly dubious about the fit of my Tshirt though, and pinched it together in the back with a clip for the photo 😎 .. It’s still such a brilliant memory for me, because he made me feel that I belonged there, with my strange mix of sportswear and couture that most of Paris really didn’t care too much about at the time. I’ll always be grateful to him , and I’m just so pleased I got to meet this extraordinary man. ❤️
I had an interesting conversation yesterday with someone about why I communicate about pieces that might not be available at this moment in time- designs from past collections, or pieces that are long sold out, the question implying, basically : “What is the point in making an effort in publicising anything if it’s not for sale? “
The answer, for me is manifold: I’ve never understood why Fashion is supposed to lose its value after 6 months, … More
Here’s a little preview of some of the pieces for the coming Fall/ Winter 2023 Collection 🤗 There’s the Wrap Coat, constructed out of a square of water-repellent technical cotton, the Slant Denim Jacket made from a selected vintage piece with an insert of technical cotton, turning it into a double-breasted Denim Jacket, the Duvet Bomber, the Sparkle Jacket 💫 the Capucine Jacket, (a Baseball Jacket with tulip sleeves in pink faille), the Magic Dress (cut from a square shape of knife pleats flowing around the body) the Fleur Top (a new, more dramatic version of our Couture T-Shirts with rounded sleeves in Taffetas) , the Scar Denim Jacket with its rounded hourglass shape cut into an oversized Denim Jacket, and finally the Silver Band Denim Pants, printed with a band of metallic silver foil at the front 😎 .. any early favourites?
All looks of LUTZ HUELLE Spring/ Summer 2022 “Going out, dressing up, having fun..Day into evening into night and vice versa, clothes that mix and match between day and night and work both on a dancefloor and sitting behind a desk.Roomy coats in embroidered Organza are worn over shirt dresses in checked Cotton. The same shirts have details in golden sequins and embroidered panels in laser cut chiffon circles.Gold sequinned finishings are also attached to a denim jacket and vest, a boxy jacket cut in a soft sweater jersey and under the collar of an oversized Men’s blazer.T-Shirts in fluid, technical jersey have double hems in taffetas, adding a touch of drama to a simple look of pants and T-Shirt.Petal-shaped sleeves are attached to a top and Dress in Jersey, transforming a simple T-Shirt into a Couture Top.Fluid dresses in silk crepe are worn over brightly coloured Boots.A jacket-cape in taffetas adds a dramatic silhouette to everyday pieces. In our Men’s Debut, the LUTZ Bomber and Denim jacket are worn over large, roomy pants in light fluid wool.Denim and Cargo Pants are cut and sliced together diagonally, creating a graphic effect when worn with a tank top and T-Shirt worked in the same way. Finally, a T-shirt with petal sleeves in taffetas over a pair of Jeans, and a Top with a taffetas hem worn over a diagonal cargo pants look just as good on a man as they do on a woman, and illustrate perfectly what my work has always been about: A sense of freedom and unlimited possibilities.”
´Huelle’s enterprising and truly original fashion is always surprising and never follows obvious trends. To his credit, never more than this season.’ Godfrey Deeny on F/W 2021 on FASHION NETWORK
